Learn English in the heart of Canada!
We would like to acknowledge that we are in Treaty 1 territory and that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
Our original school is located in exciting downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, within the historic Exchange District where everything you need is close to the school including public transportation, shopping, restaurants, museums, the Winnipeg Public Library, and parks. Classrooms are large and comfortable. Students have free access to wireless Internet, kitchen facilities, free coffee in the morning, lounge and activity spaces and more.
Winnipeg has fewer international students than larger cities in Canada, and Heartland has one of the most diverse nationality mixes of all language schools. Therefore, you can be assured that you will not be studying with too many students from your own country and that you will be immersed in an English environment so that you will improve your English quickly.

This article, in particular, will explain the feeling of being lost in translation and things we can do to overcome it. “You-good” (ni hao) = “Hello” in Chinese?! “How-old-are-you?” […]

“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” — Helen Keller There are many things that make Heartland special, but for me, one of the most special aspects is the community. By teacher Jeneen English spelling can be quite difficult! Some people are lucky to speak or learn a language in which words are spelled how they are said. However, this is not the case with English. Much of our spelling requires memorisation due to things like silent letters, double letters, and unexpected letters. Let’s look at […]

Hello, my name is Grace Binas, and I’m the Intermediate 2 instructor here at Heartland. I recently went on a vacation to Mexico with my junior high friend, a trip that had been eagerly anticipated for a long time. This trip felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, that the anticipation lasted longer than my actual stay […]

written by teacher Jeneen. Let’s think about the verb “be”. It is a small, simple word, but it sure does some interesting things in English! There is not much verb agreement in English compared to other languages (I walk, she walks), but the verb BE is active in this area (I am, you are, he is…). There is […]
