Carol Hutchinson-Peters has been a teacher at Heartland since 2001. Before that, she taught English as a Second Language for nine years in Santiago, Chile, teaching all levels, from absolute beginners to preparing students to take university entrance tests such as TOEFL and IELTS. She studied English Literature at the University of Winnipeg, and received her upgrade certificate in TESOL training from the same university in November 2008.
I remember the worries I had as a student–would the teacher be kind? Would the other students be nice to me? Would the work be too hard? So I feel that students need a safe place in which they can relax and learn.
My hobbies are writing, music, and cross-country skiing.
I’ve taught ESL for many years, but the best moment for me is always when I feel a student has really learned something, and has enjoyed doing so. I also love inspiring students to read English literature, which is so rich and wonderful.
